To mark its 65th anniversary in 2026, the
British Heart Foundation has installed 65
bright red, slatted "In Living Memory"
benches across the UK. These benches,
located in towns and parks, celebrate heart
disease survivors rather than acting as
traditional memorials
An iconic red bench has been unveiled in in the
peace garden at King George V Playing Field
next to Maghull Town Hall, to recognise Chris
Pye who underwent triple bypass surgery after
surviving a heart attack.
Chris was transferred to Liverpool Heart & Chest
Hospital where he was told he would need a
single bypass surgery to replace the artery that
had become damaged through coronary heart
disease.

During surgery, two more arteries were
discovered to be damaged, so a triple bypass
was performed.
